The last part of our day on Friday is designated "Genius Hour." The kids spend 30 minutes researching a topic they are passionate about. The level of motivation in the room is amazing, and there is such an interesting variety of topics being researched! From paleontology to how to be a veterinarian to creating 3-D animation, the room is always buzzing with quality learning. Ask your child what he or she is passionate about today!
iPads in the classroom
This is the first year of the implementation of the 1:1 technology initiative! The students are loving their iPads and I am loving finding new ways to use them to enhance learning!
Yesterday we had our first snowfall of the season!
Read to self
Each student spends about 25 minutes every day reading whatever he or she wants! It's a peaceful and quiet time, but the buzz of interest in great books is louder than ever!
Though the weather was a little chilly, we had a wonderful time on the Fall Walk! Thanks to Mr. HIsler and everyone who helped make the day successful!
Every week we have Reading Buddies with Mrs. Elkin's class. The 2nd graders and 4th graders love having time to read with each other!
Homecoming will be this Friday, October 20th. Students will be dismissed two hours early. That morning we will also have our Fall Walk and a picnic at Brewer Creek. Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes!
MAP Testing 9-10-13
Today we had our first MAP test of the year! We took the reading portion of the test, and everyone did a great job and tried their best! This was our first year taking the test on the iPads, and all 115+ 4th graders were taking it at the same time. Things went smoothly (for the most part) and we're excited to see if this will work as a way to take these tests again in the future. Scores will be shared with parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences in November.
PBIS Goal for September 9-1-13
The goal for this month is to come in from recess quietly and enter the classroom ready to learn. The students will earn a footprint for each successful entrance into school. Mrs. Davis will put the footprints up on the wall in the gym, leading to the fall walk. All classes that reach the end of the wall and make it to the "finish line" will get to have a sack lunch down at Brewer Creek after the Fall Walk!
